Earn money from writing TV reviews for television magazine letter pages
It is possible to earn extra cash from writing comments by reviewing television programmes for magazines such as What's On TV, Radio Times, TV Times or Choice, Inside Soap, The Sun newspaper, The Sunday Post and Sunday Mail newspapers, etc.
These offer cheque payments, usually 4-6 weeks after publication, from £5 up to £25. The upper payment for writing TV reviews is for the star letter. I've been able to have a star letter published most months and there rarely goes a week when I haven't had a letter or comment published. Go to your local newsagents and see the range of television magazines available. I find that I can produce two or three comments and letters for each magazine.

Realistically each one will not be published, but by sending in at least two a week to one title I know that I will get published at least weekly in at least one of the magazines and am often published in several magazines each week. One magazine often publishes two or three of my letters each week, even though they usually only publish about 6 letters each week. These letters are published with false names and towns chosen by the Editor - I still receive the all important cheque payments and this gives me an increased monthly income. These payments soon add up to a modest monthly income which takes up little time and you can still fit in the work listed throughout the findextrawork website.
Write TV Reviews
When you write TV reviews letters do make sure that each letter is unique to each magazine. Only send in those about one specific television programme or film to each. There are lots of films and programmes on the telly so you will never be short of material.
The income you earn from writing for TV magazines should be declared to your tax office on your annual self assessment form. You can claim the cost of paper, envelopes, stamps and the magazines on your expenses. Most of them allow you to send the comments by e-mail. This will reduce your expenses and maximise your profits. It also gives the Editor of each magazine your comments faster and they can publish your comments in the next issue so that readers' will enjoy reading about a programme or film that is still fresh on their minds.
Do remember to add your name and address to your e-mail, otherwise the Editor does not know where to send payment and may not have the time to reply to you to ask for your details - you may find your letter gets published and never receive payment. This has happened to me though fortunately I have always received payments for letters published where I have put my address - learn from my mistake and don't lose out on your payment!

TV Reviews
There are many aspects available for you to write about television programmes and films. Buy a selection of them over several weeks and read the letters pages. Study the style of each magazine and learn which Editor prefers which format - do this before you start and you will increase your chances of being published.
Give your honest opinion about each programme and pen a few sentences. Some newspapers and magazines only publish one or two sentences whilst others like a couple of paragraphs. Do send just over this to each newspaper or magazine, ie don't send two paragraphs to The Sunday Post - they only like to publish one or two short snappy sentences. No Editor likes to wade through pages of comments to get one sentence or one well written paragraph. If you have written to the style and length that each likes then you have more chance of being published.
Don't just say you liked the programme - add a few sentences on why you liked (or did not like) the programme. Try not to be too personal or rude about the actors, actresses or programme makers - they may be reading the comment! They will love reading about how wonderful they were - though Editors do like a bit of controversy and love it when reader's reply to each other comments. Which gives you another avenue to explore and write about - pick a letter at least once a week and send one in either agreeing or strongly disagreeing about the comments and explore why you felt this way.

Do try and talk about a new programme as soon as it is finished. An Editor will love to watch a drama in the evening and get to work in the morning and find a well written comment in his inbox that he can publish in his next edition.
Editors love questions too. If you've watched a television programme or film and it leaves you with unanswered questions don't keep these to yourself or quietly research the answer on the internet - use this to write a television comment letter.
